Mirror-finish mold cleaning: effective without dulling the surface

Need

Mirror-finish molds made of anodized aluminum require controlled cleaning processes to preserve the surface finish. The Customer asked us to remove the release agent from its molds without compromising their aesthetic and functional appearance.
Cleaning industrial molds with functional surfaces or a high-quality finish is a particularly delicate operation. Aggressive or uncontrolled treatments can alter the mold surface, compromising its functional and aesthetic quality, increasing production scrap and, in the most critical cases, making corrective actions or mold restoration necessary, with a consequent increase in downtime and operating costs.

SCT SOLUTION

For cleaning the mirror-finish molds, we carried out an ultrasonic immersion washing process, combined with a specific neutral-pH chemical solution, designed according to the contaminants present (resin and release agent).
The complexity of the intervention was also linked to the type of injection mold: a concave geometry characterized by deep cavities and hard-to-reach corners, which made cleaning particularly challenging.
The cycle, lasting about 40 minutes, allowed for the complete removal of contaminants and achieved a uniform result across the entire surface, including the most critical areas. The mold was thus made ready for use again, allowing for rapid reassembly on the press.

RESULTS ACHIEVED

– Complete removal of process contaminants;
– Mold surface intact, with no functional or aesthetic alterations;
– Immediate return to production.

Other applications

– Industrial molds for rubber, plastic, and technical materials;
– Molds with high aesthetic finishes;
– Molds with complex geometries and hard-to-reach areas.

OPERATIONAL ADVANTAGE

The SCT treatment allows the Customer to work on the mold directly at the production line, limiting machine downtime and managing product changeovers quickly. The result is a leaner workflow, reduced operating times, and greater continuity of production activities. This approach also makes it possible to maintain high quality standards even on components with a high aesthetic finish, reducing scrap and improving the overall efficiency of the process.
